ASTRO-SAFE

 

Safe and Energy Efficient

Made from 100% Polyester Thermally bonded Hiloft Nonwoven fiber, laminated to 99% Pure Reinforced Aluminum foil.

An easy to clean surface that maintains duct temperature between cycles; adding occupant comfort and minimizing run time. Enhances thermal performance and minimizes friction loss. Improves the performance of in-duct UV sanitizers.

Astro-Safe is completely safe for installers, building owners and occupants. Astro-Safe's acoustical and thermal performance is the best available. The smooth foil surface assures minimum air friction loss and acts as an additional insulator preventing heat loss or gain between blower cycles. The tough foil surface allows ducts to be cleaned with standard rotating brush systems. Available in ½" & 1" thickness. Standard roll size: 4' x 50', custom cuts are available.

Installation Guidelines

Orientation

ASTRO-SAFE duct liner must be installed with the reinforced foil facing toward the air stream.

Adhesive

Use a Type 1 adhesive that complies with ASTM C 916. All duct surfaces that will be covered with ASTRO-SAFE must be covered 90% or more with adhesive. Installation must be neat and tight with no exposed edges.

Any exposed edges of ASTRO-SAFE that are not covered with foil must be coated with adhesive and taped with 2 mil foil tape with acrylic adhesive, such as ASTRO-FOIL tape.

Mechanical Fastening

In addition to an approved adhesive, mechanical fasteners that are welded or impact driven must be used in accordance with HVAC Duct Construction Stanards Ð Metal and Flexible (SMACNA 1995). Refer to the following illustration for typical fastener spacing.

Cuts or gouges in the foil surface can be repaired with 2 mil aluminum foil tape with an acrylic adhesive such as ASTRO-FOIL Foil Tape. Tape all seams where edges of ASTRO-SAFE butt together.
